Jim Clarken: A lasting solution to world hunger is possible
THE longest Akiru Lotege and her children have gone without food is four days. Before they got food on the fifth day, she said her children couldn't even stand up.
"When we are hungry like this it is hard to sleep. The children cry all night," she said.
Akiru, from Turkana in Kenya, is one of 12 million people facing starvation across Eastern Africa, in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. Children are most in danger as malnutrition rates soar.
