James Downey: Coalition can make mistakes -- but it must admit to them

HALF the country is outraged because somebody didn't get the job that she, and almost everybody else who took an interest in the matter, had expected.

Have those who wanted Joan Burton in an immensely important economic ministry got it right? Yes, but not necessarily for the reasons that prompted their anger.

In so far as the gender question matters, it is not because of her despatch to a department, Social Protection, thought "suitable" for a woman.
