It's really a debate about fairness

WHATEVER way the sums are done, the extra €81m that fee-paying schools have to play around with every year is a lot of money.

It buys certain privileges for the 26,000 or so students attending the 55, soon to be 54, fee-paying schools in the country.

Many parents will argue, justifiably, that they are not well off and take a decision to prioritise private education ahead of, say, foreign holidays, replacing the car, or nights out.
