Pretty much every capital city in the first world has a fashion week. It's not only an essential way to promote the industry, keep jobs and encourage business tourism, it is a glamorous and sexy way to promote a country as being one of promise and worth, vitality and vision.
And isn't that what we need to be saying to the world at large when the international media and particularly, the EU, are so keen to promote us as dead in the water?
Fashion is the perfect way to get the message across that we are a strong country -- using the physical creative evidence of our young and our brightest, as well as our older and wisest, to say "hey, we still have it going on".
