Israel a handy whipping boy for the Left
If the Jewish state didn't exist, the Left would have to invent it as a focus for their rage, says Eilis O'Hanlon
A RECENT article in the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz claimed that Britain has "taken France's dubious place as the nexus of anti-Israel activity in Europe".
Typical British infamy, muscling in on our territory like that. Everybody knows that hounding Zionists is a job best left to the Irish Left --and thankfully we now have new inspiration in the shape of the decision by the town council of Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan to remove a page from the visitors' book in which the Israeli ambassador's name appeared, as first reported by the Sunday Independent last weekend.
The vote in Carrickmacross was supposedly taken in protest at Israel's diplomatic record, and particularly the use of faked Irish and British passports in the January assassination, allegedly by Mossad agents, of Hamas terrorist Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in Dubai.
