There's a shine to almost everything at Euston railway station. From the polished floors to the smiling barista at Costa Coffee to the upbeat announcer on the tannoy, there's a calm and almost affluent feel to this station. You forget about the exorbitant cost of rail travel and walk tall here.
But if you keep on walking you'll find the ground beneath you is less polished and there are fewer smiles. Exit the station, turn left on to Eversholt Street, then right on to Phoenix Road and right on to Chalton Street. This is Somers Town in the heart of inner-city London.
In August, there were 123 crimes reported in this relatively small area, 114 of them relating to anti-social behaviour.
