Ireland of the welcomes is a myth

Over half of all black Africans living here have experienced racism or abuse in recent months, reports Jim Cusack

THE voluntary group, Sports Against Racism in Ireland (Sari), was set up in 1997 and is run by volunteers.

Meanwhile, European football body Uefa set up Respect to combat violence, racism, xenophobia and homophobia in sport.

It supports SARI, to whom it sent a message of support for yesterday's rally in Dublin city centre against the undercurrent of racism that exists in the heart of Irish urban life.
