Inside the world of Celine and Eamonn

Eamonn Lillis and Celine Cawley appeared to have the perfect marriage; but beneath the surface, trouble had been building for years. Nicola Anderson reports

Eamonn Lillis and Celine Cawley first met at the annual advertising festival in Kinsale, Co Cork, in 1990. A football match had been organised between the Irish advertising agencies and those from elsewhere in the world.

In a major coup, someone had organised for Jack Charlton, who was the darling of the Irish public after the massive successes of Italia 90, to manage the Irish side. That person was Celine Cawley -- by all accounts a dynamic, go-getting individual who would not have hesitated in ringing up 'Big Jack' to get him involved.

Someone advised Lillis that, if he wanted to get on the Irish advertising team, he should get in touch with her. They hit it off, sharing a love of dogs. Lillis had recently got a German shepherd and by some coincidence, so, too, had Celine -- a German shepherd-ridgeback cross.
