Thankfully, this fact is now accepted by the vast majority of people in this country. Indeed, over the last 10 years, there has been a significant hardening of people's attitudes to drinking and driving -- for the better.
A poll conducted by Millward Brown Lansdowne for the Road Safety Authority in November 2009 shows that 65 per cent of drivers say you should never ever drink and drive. In fact, they describe drink-driving as one of the most socially undesirable actions in Irish society today.
