Has top civil servant the stomach for another battle?

During his 50-minute hearing yesterday, Department of Finance Secretary General Kevin Cardiff described the last four years of his life as a battle.
Some might have said he was fighting a losing battle as his department struggled to get a grip on the economy while it hurtled into the clutches of the EU and IMF.
Nevertheless, it was a battle he chose, having taken over the department at the beginning of last year as the economy cart-wheeled down a cliff.
