TENSIONS rose to breaking point yesterday as Passport Office staff persisted with their contentious work to rule while frustrated members of the public queued vainly in the rain.
Some holidaymakers were in tears after being told that there was no hope of their passports being ready in time.
Others expressed anger at the industrial action, which has seen the backlog of applications rise to 40,000.
