HER voice was soft but definite when I called her in the early afternoon of last Saturday week to ask if she had been sacked as executive director of the charity Unicef.
"I can confirm I have been dismissed -- I cannot say anything more," she answered, firmly.
It was a stunning and unexpected confirmation to a story that has now held people enthralled for a week.
