Flying without talent -- but at least Westlife are holding their hands up FF's dugout Lease is up

Embarrassment is a rare commodity in recessionary Ireland. There is little evidence of shame among the bankers, developers, regulators, politicians and assorted other cowboys who pulled the house down, and then stiffed the rest of us with an enormous bill for the pleasure of the renovation.

Last week, however, we witnessed a welcome display of frankness and accountability from one of the country's leading corporations: Westlife apologised for their dreary ballads.

As those who follow global affairs will know, Westlife recently severed ties with Simon Cowell's music label Syco. After a mutually lucrative association lasting 13 years, the boyband were feeling unloved, claiming that the X Factor and American Idol star is more interested in his own fame than theirs.
