It's called a trade mission for a reason. It's not called a human rights mission.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny went to the Gulf States for the week to drum up business for Irish companies. He came under fire for not raising human rights issues in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The Taoiseach took the remit of dodging the issue to the extremes by congratulating the Saudis on their election to a UN human rights organisation and brushing off concerns about the Qataris' treatment of workers at World Cup stadia.
