Fionnan Sheahan: Enda's convivial dinners yet to yield palatable deal

AFTER the 'Gallic spat' with the French president at his first EU summit as Taoiseach, Enda Kenny brokered an entente cordiale with Nicolas Sarkozy in Brussels.

Following his "convivial, warm and genial" talk over dinner with the French leader, Kenny is now "more hopeful" of securing a cut in the interest rate on the bailout.

"All I want to say to you is that we had a very convivial discussion last evening. In fact, I found myself sitting beside him so we had an opportunity to have discussions about other matters as well," he said.
