Fiach Kelly: O'Shea's secret potshots at Cardiff have backfired

WHAT do you call snatching a possible victory from the jaws of a defeat which at one stage looked like a certain victory?

In most people's terms, it's a lifeline, and Kevin Cardiff, Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore were thrown one yesterday.

In the most dramatic scenes from the committee rooms of Leinster House since Rody Molloy of FAS was hauled over the coals by the Public Accounts Committee, Eoin O'Shea resurrected Mr Cardiff's chances of making it to the European Court of Auditors.
