Emer O'Hanlon: Fellowship of the Leaving Cert is over

Sitting exams was far from a joy, but revising for them came with perks that I will miss.

Emer O'Hanlon

I'm going to miss the Leaving Cert. No, really, I am. Not so much that I want to resit it next year, but it hasn't all been weeping and gnashing of teeth. Some of it's even been fun.

Picture the scene. I'm sitting in my room, trying to remember which French verbs take the subjunctive when I start to feel thirsty and peckish. I could go downstairs to the kitchen, but why would I when I have my very own Leaving Cert room service laid on? I reach for my mobile and send out a message.

A few minutes later, there's a knock on the door and I'm presented with a cup of Earl Grey and a chocolate biscuit. Next week, if I try this trick, I'll get a text telling me to stop being a lazy cow and make it myself.
