Should the State pay for the services now charged for by private nursing homes in additional mark-ups for residents?

These mandatory out-of-pocket fees, which can be as much as €70 a week, can cover a range of services from social activities to chiropody, incontinence wear and hairdressing.

The reality is they are unlikely to be included in the future cost of the State subsidy for nursing home care in the form of the Fair Deal scheme.
