Drill yourself out of economic gloom -- it's a real slick move
Pave a road to recovery with black gold -- it'll prove more robust than bricks and mortar, says Brendan O'Connor
As we walk around dazed, atoning for the boom and deeply regretting it, our minds full of questions, most people in this country have one major issue playing on our minds, a question that keeps us awake at night and preys on us all day: "Where are we going to find the next boom?" Property and construction are clearly dead for now and while the smart economy seems like a good idea in a vague way, it's not really sexy, and it doesn't really sound like the kind of thing that could make us all lose our heads, something which, of course, we're never going to do again.
And then on Thursday, we heard a word, one single little three-letter word.
And suddenly, we started to feel a little bit of the old giddiness again. Oil! There's oil in Dalkey. We knew there was gold out that way. But oil? Surely this could be, like property was, the cause of, and the solution to, all of our problems. Oil.
