Donal O’Donovan: Spending plans by NAMA have huge potential

STATE-owned bad bank NAMA said yesterday that it plans to invest €2bn in Irish property projects between now and 2016.

It's a move that reaped the agency masses of airtime and newspaper coverage, but for the cynics the move to announce big spending plans without any firm details or real commitments reeks of a PR stunt.

There are reasons to be concerned -- the biggest is that no details were given about the projects targeted for investment, there was nothing about who is lined up to actually get the building jobs, and we don't even know how much money is to be spent each year.
