Decline of town speaks volumes
Take a walk around Dun Laoghaire, or any Irish town, to see how we are teetering on the brink, writes Jody Corcoran
In a way, there are two campaigns. One will put in place a government that might -- or might not -- better manage the decline and this one is, so far, an utterly uninspiring campaign. The other campaign, more interesting but more unsettling, involves a search for something that has not yet been found.
In the end, the conflict between the two will leave us in a muddle, the outcome of which will probably be a Fine Gael-Labour coalition, although, I suppose, nothing should be taken for granted.
As of now, there is a sense that the electorate may be prepared to put up with that, for the time being -- Fine Gael and Labour -- but the reluctance is palpable, the sense of being underwhelmed is, well, overwhelming.
