WILL poor Paddy ever catch a break again? These were the words of a friend of mine who has emigrated to England, and they were spoken with the deepest pathos.
They were uttered on the night that both Liverpool and Manchester City were most unexpectedly knocked out of the Europa League, to which the uninitiated may respond: and how is that supposed to be a bad break for poor Paddy?
Well, it's like this -- the final of the Europa League is being played in Dublin this year, in the Aviva Stadium. And if Liverpool or City had made it, there would have been a great outpouring of Celtic soul brotherhood, with much feasting and drinking.
