Ross Douthat is a columnist with 'The New York Times' and in his column the other day he wrote about our fall from economic grace. However, he approached the issue not as an economic commentator, but rather as a social one.
He considered the various explanations we offered ourselves for the boom and how each of these suited particular ideological agendas.
Free-marketers, wrote Douthat, "hailed Ireland's rapid growth as an example of the miracles that free trade, tax cuts and deregulation can accomplish".
