Daniel McDonnell: Soccer will lose out if FAI's sums do not add up

JUST under a fortnight ago, the FAI's finance director, Mark O'Leary, addressed delegates at the association's AGM with a detailed presentation.
The general tone of his message was that while the FAI had borrowed extensively to fund its commitment to the new Aviva Stadium, this was the genesis of a business plan that would steer the game in this country out of potentially choppy waters.
His words, like every contribution at that meeting in Wexford, were received with a widespread round of applause. So content was everyone in the room with the general situation as outlined, that this was an AGM without AOB.
