Common ground of Garda reform

Ultimately, the whistleblower and confidential recipient are on the same side, says Maeve Sheehan

Garda whistleblower Sergeant Maurice McCabe has put a few noses out of joint while pursuing his crusade for proper standards in the force.

Among them was Oliver J Connolly, a barrister and confidential recipient and the person in whom Maurice McCabe entrusted his complaints of Garda malpractice.

Few would blame Oliver Connolly for being annoyed with the whistleblowing sergeant, whose secretly taped conversation with the barrister ended in him being sacked. But they started out with common cause and have ended up on the same side of the fence.
