Caitriona Palmer: I am convinced of one fact – that Amanda Knox is innocent of murder

Caitriona Palmer

When I pressed the send key in October 2011 on an article about the pending acquittal of Amanda Knox for the 2007 murder of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, I believed it would be the last word I would ever write on the subject.

Then came the news yesterday that a court in Rome had overturned Knox's acquittal and that the American student and her former Italian lover Raffaele Sollecito would now have to face a new trial for murder.

There are few stories that I have covered so closely for the Irish Independent in recent years and my countless interviews and in-depth reporting have left me convinced of one fact: that Amanda Knox is innocent of murder.
