Bruce Arnold: Dail vote marks our transition from republic to puppet state

Brian Lenihan is the Commissar, Brian Cowen the Gauleiter. The two terms come from totalitarianism, a kind of government towards which the European Union has been inexorably moving since the crucial passage of the Lisbon Treaty vote, which in this country signalled a European-wide acceptance of a new way of running the member countries under central control.
Chambers Dictionary's definition of totalitarianism is as good as any: "A form of government that includes control of everything under one authority, and allows no opposition."
At the top, in Europe, there is a bit of sharing. Germany and France, by dominating the EU and excluding other countries from serious involvement, exercise all the power.
