In response to the Fianna Fail presentation, a spokesman for RTE yesterday said: "RTE takes very seriously the responsibility to be even-handed and equitable as between competing interests in all editorial areas.
In particular it is important that a good and proportionate balance is maintained over time between Oireachtas parties and groupings appearing in news and current affairs programmes, especially in a changed political landscape. All editors and programme teams are mindful of this and our track record is responsible and good.
"All political parties make representations to RTE over time expressing concerns about frequency of appearance of their representatives, or airtime given to policy positions. In this context RTE met Fianna Fail representatives when requested and has given attention to the concerns expressed and the analysis presented. Representations of different kinds have also been received from other parties in recent times. It is important that statistical analysis of on-air appearances is not limited to studio guests only, but also takes account of TDs and senators who appear in filmed packages within the same programmes.
