Bring Britain alive with the sights and sounds of Fleadh

Graham Clifford

I can see it now, four hand reels criss-crossing Covent Garden, a box player stopping the commuters at Liverpool Street station in their tracks with a lively polka, and a sean-nos singer captivating the crowds in Trafalgar Square.

I think that bringing the All-Ireland Fleadh to London in 2014 would be a masterstroke -- showing the world that 'Riverdance', though superb, was a souped-up concoction that didn't exactly showcase Irish traditional music and dance as accurately as many believe.

Is it likely to happen? Probably not, but surely it's worth considering. All the Tourism Ireland advertising in the world couldn't compare to Londoners and visitors to the British capital hearing and seeing all that's great about our traditional scene.
