Brian Brennan: Let's not just give in to our disastrous fate
THERE are now so many elephants in the room it has become positively claustrophobic. Even as it grows more and more difficult to breathe, and more and more people falter and slip only to see their livelihoods trampled into the ground, the ruling elite wants us to ignore the lumbering beasts.
The ruling elite. It sounds like a phrase from 'The Communist Manifesto', but a ruling elite is what we have in this country, and union leaders who supposedly would espouse Marxism and who represent the workers -- or rather a fortunate minority of workers -- are an essential part of it.
The elephant over there in the corner is the fact that the Government does not have a snowball's chance of delivering a €15bn reduction in the Budget deficit in four years.
