Brian Brennan: Gormley headed for political dustbin after year of failure
THEY failed to empty the green bins again. The council promised that the green bin men would come on December 24. Since they had not turned up for the previous regular collection two weeks earlier, householders were being given the unique opportunity to place a plastic sack beside their green bin.
The promise was greeted with some scepticism. Christmas Eve? Roads covered in snow? Nevertheless, overflowing green bins were trundled out and black plastic bags bulging with cardboard, paper and plastic packaging placed leaning against them.
It being Christmas in suburbia there was lots of extra recyclable stuff around and an as-always compliant Irish public was doing its civic duty. Keeping its side of the bargain.
