Civil servant jobs are safe as long as you don’t actually burn down the building
Come back, Troika, all is forgiven. The Government has only just got its hands back on the national purse but already there are signs that it wants to go on another spending spree.
Under the terms of a new public sector plan due to be published soon, some civil servants will receive bonus payments for good performance – a risky commitment that could backfire unless it is accompanied by a whole lot of other reforms as well.
Everybody accepts that there is a real problem here. The public sector contains plenty of teachers and nurses who work their hearts out purely for the satisfaction of doing a good job. It is obviously unfair that these heroes get no more money than slackers on the
