Aideen Sheehan: Young flee the Live Register for new lives abroad
WHAT goes up must come down -- the problem is where the people coming off the Live Register are ending up? At first glance it looks promising that over 4,000 fewer people were signing on the dole in November, the third month in a row there's been a decrease.
But the trouble is there's little to indicate this is down to a huge sudden improvement in people's job prospects -- with emigration, education and increasing numbers being cut off welfare the chief suspects.
After all, official redundancy figures also published yesterday show those coming off the dole were outnumbered by those being made redundant in November -- who even as we speak are probably making their way to the nearest dole office to sign on.
