Autumn has given way to winter. The signs were evident last week; on Monday morning a sharp wind blew through the tall trees and fulsome hedgegrows of north county Dublin.
On the car radio, Jim Flaherty, the Finance Minister of Canada, in Dublin for a business lunch -- he stopped over from a G20 meeting in Paris -- was talking the doom-laden talk of Europe still in crisis.
In the distance was St David's, small but distinctive, which serves a Church of Ireland community around Kilsallaghan, a parish in the barony of Castleknock.
