The accident happened at around 6.45pm yesterday about 1km from Lisdoonvarna, Co Clare, on the N67 Ennistymon road.

A group of three motorcycles, with two persons on each bike, and all believed to be from Italy, were travelling in one direction. A lone motorcyclist, thought to be German, was driving the opposite way.

While gardaí are investigating the cause of the accident, it's believed one of the motorcycles from the group of three collided with the bike travelling in the opposite direction.

The lone motorcyclist is understood to have died immediately.

The driver and pillion passenger on the second bike sustained injuries, and the driver died shortly afterwards at the scene.

The injured woman was treated by paramedics at the scene for less serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, two people were injured after a six-car collision on Cork's South Link Road.

The accident occurred shortly after 4pm near the Mahon exit at the eastern end of the busy dual-carriageway close to the Jack Lynch tunnel.
