'X Factor' denies acts know result before broadcast

Tuesday November 15 2011

LOUIS Walsh (pictured) last night refused to comment on claims by singer Mary Coughlan that the act voted off the 'X Factor' knows before the live 'reveal'.

Ms Coughlan was a guest of the pop manager at both the live show and the results programme of the hit television show in London over the weekend, and described the show as "heavily orchestrated".

The 53-year-old said that during the trip she "got to find out things I shouldn't know about 'X Factor'".

Viewers of Sunday night's results programme saw Mr Walsh's last remaining act, Kitty Brucknell, eliminated by the judges after a sing-off.

Speaking yesterday on RTE Radio, Ms Coughlan said her favourite act was Misha B and was asked how she had successfully made it through the semi-final.

"Well you know, let's not go there but I suppose I got to find out things I shouldn't know about the 'X Factor', but I really was intrigued by the whole way it ran, let me just say that," she said.

Pressed on what exactly she had "learned", she added: "People know things before the show starts, that's all I am going to say . . . that they probably shouldn't know . . ."

However, when contacted by the Irish Independent last night, Ms Coughlan denied that she implied the show was fixed.

Mr Walsh declined to comment when contacted last night. But a spokeswoman for the show "categorically" denied Ms Coughlan's claims.
