World's oldest newlyweds say 'I do', again

THE world's oldest newlyweds kissed for the cameras after enjoying a special Valentine's wedding ceremony yesterday.

The elderly but intrepid newlyweds were in the middle of a 1,600-mile camper van tour of Ireland and Britain.

Our pictures show Peggy and James Mason, who are 84 and 93 respectively, after the ceremony in St Mary's Church of Ireland, Killarney.

The two officially tied the knot in a civil ceremony in their native England last November after a whirlwind romance of less than three weeks.

"Everything was absolutely wonderful," Peggy said yesterday. "It was absolutely beautiful. We walked down the aisle to Ave Maria. The stained glass windows in the church were lovely."

Trip

But Peggy, who will be behind the wheel of their Peugeot camper van for the duration of their trip, said the "beautiful" make up and dress she wore yesterday won't be compatible with their motor home.

"There were two lovely ladies who came and did my hair in a modern fashion and it was lovely.

"Everybody worked jolly hard for the day but, unfortunately, I won't be able to wear my nails when I'm driving the van."

Andrea Wallace was Peggy's bridesmaid, while Mayor of Killarney Niall O'Callaghan (pictured right) took on best man duties for James, a former Mayor of Torbay in Devon, England. Mayor O'Callaghan even made James honourary Mayor of Killarney for the day by crowning him with his chain of office.

The next stop for the pair, who have a combined age of 177, is Peggy's native Yorkshire. They leave the Killarney Royal Hotel today to catch a ferry to Wales.

But, yesterday, they were just happy to enjoy their moment.

"It was great. We had a lovely buffet. But I think a little shut eye would be very useful now."
