ANY reduction in the drink-driving limit in Northern Ireland is unlikely to happen before next year.
A spokeswoman for the Department of the Environment in Belfast yesterday said the minister in charge would not be briefed by officials on plans to reduce the blood alcohol limit from 80mg to 50mg until next month.
Last April, the public was asked to make submissions on four options relating to the drink-driving limit -- retain the current 80mg limit; reduce it to 50mg for all drivers; reduce it to 20mg for all drivers; or reduce it to 20mg for professional and novice drivers and to 50mg for the rest of the motoring population.
The public consultation ended in July.
Officials from the department will meet with Department of Transport officials today in Dublin to discuss moves on the issue.
