Violins for free No strings attached
Tuesday June 24 2008
A talented violinist pumped up the volume yesterday to let budding musicians know that cash has been made available for those in need of instruments.
Cora Venus Lunny and the rock band Delorentos were at the Arts Council on Merrion Square, Dublin to make a song and dance about a new €350,000 funding purchase scheme.
Members of the Rathfarnham Concert Band, aged 13 to18, paraded with their brass instruments. And youngsters, aged from three to seven, wrestled with their instruments, including African djembe drums and an electric guitar, showing that you do not have to be a professional to take part.
The Music Capital Scheme, which is funded by The Arts Council in association with The IRMA Trust, will provide support for the purchase of musical instruments for three categories. It targets highly-skilled performing artists, non-professional performing groups and those working in youth or community organisations.
