Upmarket burger chain bites the dust
THE Real Gourmet Burger chain founded by embattled developer Paddy Kelly and restaurateur David Larkin is to be wound up in mid April, writes Laura Noonan.
Founded in 2007, Real Gourmet Burger was one of the first chains to target the "upmarket" burger market.
"Our angle would be to position ourselves towards the premium end of the burger market, the Brown Thomas end," Mr Larkin said in a 2007 interview.
At the time, Real Gourmet Burger was operating from a sleek 48-seater premises in Dun Laoghaire. The target was for six Real Gourmet Burgers by the end of 2008, and a large Ballsbridge restaurant was opened soon afterwards.
Notices published yesterday show that the three companies behind Real Gourmet Burger are to be wound-up at creditors' meetings on April 13. Mr Kelly is no longer listed as an owner in the chain.
The phones at the Ballsbridge venue were unanswered. Efforts to reach Mr Larkin were unsuccessful.
