Titanic's last port of call honours victims

THE 97TH anniversary of the sinking of the legendary liner Titanic will be commemorated at a special ceremony in the Irish town that was the doomed ship's last port of call.
The commemoration will take place at 3pm tomorrow in Cobh, Co Cork, and will feature a parade, a wreath-laying ceremony and the first-ever involvement of the Irish Lebanon Association in remembrance of the Lebanese victims of the tragic sinking. The Titanic parade will depart from the Clock Tower Gallery on Lynch's Quay to the Titanic Memorial in Pearse Square.
The names of 79 victims who boarded the Titanic in Cobh -- which was then called Queenstown -- will be read out as part of the ceremony. The ceremony marks the 97th anniversary of the 1912 north Atlantic tragedy in which 1,503 people drowned and which ranks as one of the world's worst maritime disasters.
