The victims in the horrific crash

Thursday November 19 2009

Teresa Molloy (19) was from Leitir Mor, in Connemara, Co Galway, and went home at weekends to work in the local Mace shop.

She didn't drink or smoke and had been dating her boyfriend, fisherman Christopher Griffin, for four years.

She had hoped to continue her studies to be a primary school teacher and wanted to return to her local area to teach.

She will be buried in the graveyard just yards in front of the family home outside Leitir Mor.

Teresa is survived by her parents Cathy and Pat, and sisters Jamie, Susan and Christina.

  • Marie Stephanie Conneely (19), from Baile na hAbhann, Co Galway, lived just a few miles away from Theresa. She travelled home each weekend to work in the local shop and to go out with her friends.

She was studying Irish and translation studies and hoped to be a primary school teacher. She planned to move home to her local area in the future to teach local children.

She had hoped to study to be a teacher in Edinburgh, Scotland. She is survived by her parents Noel and Noirin, and brothers Padraig and Ciaran.

She was in her second year at NUI Galway, studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography and applied math science and a diploma in Irish.

Her family are originally from the Galway area but moved to Mulgannon, in Wexford, a number of years ago.

  • Sarah Byrne (20) was an only daughter from the village of Headford in north Galway.

She had moved to Galway city to study at NUI Galway .

She was a third-year student of Irish and geography, and had worked part time at Keady's Supermarket in Headford.

She lived with her parents, Tom and Tina, and her only brother at the family home on the Cong road, just outside Headford.

Originally from Kilronan on Inis Mor, the largest of the three Aran Islands, her 21st birthday was just a few weeks ago.

Her father, John, is a coxswain on the Aran Islands lifeboat and he and his wife Nora travelled to her bedside on Tuesday night.

The eldest of the five young women in the car, Michelle was studying Irish and translation.
