Teachers to vote on action against cuts
Teacher unions are preparing for an early ballot on industrial action to oppose government cutbacks.
The Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) and the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland ballots are expected to take place in coming weeks.
A meeting on October 19 to consider the situation will also be attended by Irish National Teachers Organisation and the Irish Federation of University Teachers representatives.
The TUI is threatening action up to and including strike in opposition to any worsening of conditions of service, reduction in staffing, threats to job security or reductions in pay or pensions
The TUI will also be encouraging as many members as possible to take part in the ICTU's regional protests on November 6.
