A lunchtime session of ragtime and stride piano is in store for National Concert Hall (NCH) patrons on Friday, November 13, (John Field Room, 1-2pm), courtesy of one of the NCH's favourite performers, Colm 'Stride' O'Brien.
The programme includes the works of Scott Joplin, Fats Waller, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and includes some of the most famous Broadway hits from the Great American Songbook.
Stars come out for charity gig
A charity concert in aid of Aisling Group International takes place in The Sugar Club, Dublin, tomorrow evening at 8pm.
A star-studded line-up includes: Mannix Flynn, Anne Gildea, Eamon Keane, Noel O'Grady and Susannah De Wrixon. The evening will be compered by Seamus Hosey. Tickets, €20 each, available at the door. The Aisling Group promotes drug awareness.
Costigan ready to cook up a storm
THE Sunday Independent's resident cookery expert Brenda Costigan will give a demonstration in Newbridge Silverware, Newbridge, next Thursday November 12, at 10am.
She will feature recipes from her new book From Brenda's Kitchen: 100 Favourite Recipes with photographs by Tony Gavin.
Night of positivity in tough times
IN a positive response to dealing with the hurdles we face in life, Gary Kelly, ex-Leeds Utd and Ireland footballer, and Des Smyth, ex-Ryder Cup vice captain, and their respective high profile charities, the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre and Des Smyth Drogheda Youth Foundation have joined forces to organise an evening filled with positivity and humour. The event will take place tomorrow in Drogheda.
"Through our sporting disciplines, we recognise that a positive and focused mind can overcome any obstacle and so we invited Alvin Law, a Canadian-born motivational speaker, to come to Ireland and talk to the people of Co Louth," said Des Smyth.
