Shannon put on security alert for Bush stopover
Tuesday April 01 2008
SECURITY at Shannon airport has been stepped up amid reports US President George W Bush could stop over this weekend as he returns from a NATO summit.
Sources said yesterday the Defence Forces have been told to prepare a full security programme for the airport and preparations by the Army are already in full swing.
It is understood a meeting of senior commanders in the Southern Brigade took place yesterday afternoon to discuss the security procedures that need to be implemented.
Mr Bush is to attend a three-day NATO summit meeting of heads of states and governments in Bucharest later this week.
It is believed the aircraft will land in Shannon sometime on Saturday.
