Second cancellation for annual farm show

TORRENTIAL rain has left the organisers of yet another major agricultural show frustrated, as they've had to call off their event for a second year running.
The bizarre mix of sunshine and flash flooding has left the organisers of this year's Tullow Show in Co Carlow mystified.
The decision to call off the one-day event, which was due to take place on Sunday, was taken because of health and safety risks. "We're absolutely devastated. We have to undo all the hard work and contact everyone to let them know," said Tullow Show chairwoman Eileen Doyle.
"It would not be right to proceed, when we know in our heart and soul it could be dangerous. The grounds are dreadful, I've been up there all week. We've had continuous rain," she added.
Up to 18,000 spectators were expected to turn out for the event, and many will be disappointed that the weather has spoiled their weekend.
The intermittent wet and dry spells made the decision a difficult one for organisers; however, after Wednesday night's downpours they were left with no choice. Despite the losses incurred after the show's cancellation for a second year, organisers have vowed to bring the event back in 2009.
"There's no doubt in the world that we will be putting on a show in 2009. We need to go back and review it and have a contingency plan in place. We can't allow this to happen for a third year," added Ms Doyle.
