ROYSH, it's over and out.

Ross O'Carroll Kelly, the alter ego of writer Paul Howard (above) has left the Sunday Tribune.

Last night, the former sportswriter turned novelist confirmed that he had parted company with the paper where he had written the Ross O'Carroll column for almost 10 years.

"I left the Tribune 18 months ago but continued to write the column, but that is over now," Mr Howard said.

"I don't really want to discuss it, but I just decided I did not want to write the column anymore," he added.

While fans of Ross O'Carroll Kelly will be deprived of their weekly fix of the life and times of a wealthy South County Dublin layabout, socialite and rugby enthusiast, they will only have to wait until October before his latest exploits emerge in book form.

"I am also working on a Ross O'Carroll play," Mr Howard said.

Media sources said last night that the loss of the Ross column would be a big blow to the Tribune.

"It was the linchpin of the paper." Nobody was available at the Sunday Tribune to comment.

Hunt goes on for soldiers' killers

Girl shot dead 'in family feud'
