A PAIR of diners grabbed knives from a Chinese restaurant and stabbed three staff members because they weren't happy with their meal.

The workers were hospitalised following the vicious attack at the Magic Wok restaurant in Charlestown, Co Mayo, on Sunday night.

Their attackers are believed to have attended a First Communion celebration in the town earlier in the day.

None of the three staff members, two of whom were women, sustained serious injuries, but they were extremely traumatised by the incident.

One suffered a hand injury, another sustained a head wound and the third, was wounded in the neck. Two were released from hospital immediately after treatment, while the third was detained overnight.

Both suspects are believed to be in their 20s. They were last seen leaving Charlestown in camper vans, travelling towards Ballaghaderreen.

"The attack was not that frenzied but very distressing for the victims," Inspector Martin Byrne of Swinford Garda Station said.

"We are still trying to ascertain the full facts and we are in the process of taking statements. An interpreter will be necessary for us to carry out our work."

It is understood there were very few customers in the restaurant when the incident took place around 10pm.
