THE grief of a tragedy-struck family continued yesterday as the remains of the student killed in a bus accident in Peru some 12 days ago were finally flown home.

David Scollard (21), from Ballybricken near Limerick was killed when a bus carrying him and fellow UCD student, David O'Grady from Dublin plunged 60 ft down an embankment on August 11. However, his body was only flown back to Ireland, arriving at Dublin Airport, early yesterday.

It is understood that Mr O'Grady remained in Peru to fly back with his travel companion's remains.

The accident happened along a highway between Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu - the gateway city to the Inca settlements.

Five Peruvians were also killed, while another 37 were injured.

Mr Scollard's remains will be buried in his native Ballybricken after funeral mass tomorrow. The tragedy compounded the agony for the family who lost another son Michael in a Limerick car accident five years ago.
