Protest at proposed bite out of restaurant wages
STAFF who cannot stomach a cut in their pay protested at a champagne awards ceremony attended by restaurant bosses last night.
Dressed in chefs' uniforms, they confronted employers as they arrived for the Irish Restaurant Awards Ceremony in Dublin, where Chapter One scooped the top award.
The protest was called after the Restaurants Association of Ireland called for the abolition of legally binding minimum pay rates and conditions in the sector.
As agreed with the IMF and EU under the bailout deal, the Government is currently reviewing the agreement.
It will decide a course of action by the end of this month after considering the recommendations of an independent review, which advised it to keep the wage deals in place.
However, the review called for a radical overhaul of the wage-setting deals.
